Specialists Detect Kremlin Intimidation Campaign Against Tomahawk Use

Moscow is conducting a “reflexive control” operation of threats to deter the America from providing precision-guided weapons to Ukrainian forces, according to military analysts. An influential Russian lawmaker stated: “We are familiar with these projectiles thoroughly, their flight patterns, methods to intercept them, we encountered them in Syria, so this is not innovative. Only those who supply them and those who use them will have problems … We will find ways to damage those who create problems for us.”

Ukrainian Defensive Operations Situation

Kyiv's troops were causing significant casualties in a military operation in eastern Ukraine, the primary conflict zone, Ukraine's leader reported on midweek. Zelenskyy's assessment, based on a briefing from his top commander, contrasted with Moscow's speech before high-ranking military personnel a prior day in which he asserted the invading army held the operational control in every combat zone.

Based on evaluation from October's first week, conflict monitors said Russia was experiencing substantial casualties, especially due to drone strikes by Ukraine, in return for small operational progress. Kyiv's troops, Zelenskyy said, were “defending ourselves along multiple fronts”, highlighting especially Kupiansk, a largely destroyed town in Ukraine's northeast under sustained offensive operations for several months.

Area Situations

The regional governor in Ukraine's southern region of the Kherson oblast said offensive operations on Wednesday caused three deaths in and around the urban center of the oblast center. Local authorities of northern Sumy, on the northern frontier with neighboring Russia, said three people died in UAV assaults in various areas. Kyiv's air command said it intercepted or jammed 154 out of 183 attack and decoy UAVs through the evening.

An offensive strike substantially impacted critical infrastructure, government sources stated on midweek. Two employees were wounded in the assault, based on information from power utility representatives. They provided minimal specifics, regarding the plant's location, but government officials said Russia struck energy infrastructure in the Chernihiv region, southern Kherson and south-eastern Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Public Effects

In the border community of the Shostka area, hit hard by the Russian onslaught against the electrical grid, officials have put up tents where civilians are able to warm up, receive warm beverages, power electronic devices and obtain emotional assistance, according to regional head.

Global Response

Kyiv's representative to Nato on midweek called on European partners to accelerate procurement of US weapons for Ukraine. “This doesn't mean we prefer United States armaments instead of French or German or some other European weapons – the challenge remains that we require the America for systems that European countries can't provide,” said Ukraine's NATO envoy.

Germany's national police will soon be allowed to neutralize UAVs, interior minister said on midweek, after a spate of drone sightings believed to be Russian efforts to spy and intimidate. Presenting proposed legislation, the minister said police would be authorized “to take sophisticated countermeasures against unmanned aircraft dangers, for example with electromagnetic pulses, electronic interference, GPS interference, but also with physical means”.

EU Defense Concerns

EU chief declared on Wednesday that Europe must ramp up its defenses to counter Moscow's multifaceted attacks after airspace breaches, digital assaults and marine communications interference. “These aren't isolated incidents. It is a coherent and escalating campaign,” the leader said in a presentation to the European lawmakers. “Two incidents are coincidence, but several, many, frequent – that represents a intentional and focused hybrid threat strategy against the European Union, and European countries should answer.”

Humanitarian Status

The Switzerland's administration has continued its refugee protection offered to Ukrainian refugees to at least 4 March 2027. Temporary protection, which enables individuals to travel abroad as well as work in Switzerland, is generally limited to one year but can be continued. “The ruling reflects the continued dangerous conditions and ongoing military actions across extensive regions of the country,” said a federal announcement. “Despite worldwide negotiation attempts, a permanent peace that would permit protected homecoming is not expected in the coming years.”
