Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
